We Need Your Help!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Ms. Kelly’s 7th grade literacy ladder class started reading the book Golden Boy by Tara Sullivan. In the book the main character is a person with albinism who is impacted by discrimination in Tanzania.
We started to learn more about the challenges that face persons with Albinism in Tanzania and found the statistics on the prevalence skin cancer in persons with Albinism and the challenges of trying to purchase sunscreen and eye protection in Tanzania. We learned about an organization called Under the Same Sun that helps to distribute sunscreen and eyewear to persons with albinism in Tanzania.
We are starting a school wide drive meant to help people with Albinism in Tanzania, Africa. During this time, families are being asked to donate items. We will be collecting throughout the month of March. Below are the items we are hoping to collect:
- Long Sleeve Shirts
- Sunglasses New or Used (Must be clean and in good condition)
- New Reading Glasses
- Sunscreen Lotion
- Wide brimmed hats(or baseball caps)
- Magnifying Glasses(Small, hand held)
There will also be a 50/50 raffle and penny war going on to raise money to adopt an elephant through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to raise awareness about elephant poaching in Tanzania. For more information about these two wonderful organizations please go to:
Thank you for your support!
